Before you tackle the list
I want your business to be hugely successful. The checklist is designed to be simple and generic enough to be useful for any business. Before you dive into the tasks, please find out if there are any additional legal or other requirements before registering your new company in your state or country of residence. The checklist does include the basics like setting up bank accounts, applying for tax ID numbers with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). But depending on your type of business you may need additional licenses with federal, state, county, city agencies where required.
Plan on asking for help
As an entrepreneur, you’re going to have to juggle the different aspects of your business like marketing, sales, and operations while answering emails, doing bookkeeping and trying to keep your dream alive. As you get your business set up, even in using this checklist, you may find it difficult to handle a task or two or more. You can click on each item on the list for additional information and tips but if you get stuck, it’s ok. You are probably highly intelligent and could figure out anything that you set your mind to. But try to avoid the mistake of trying to do everything yourself. As you go through this list and find yourself getting stuck, write down your questions on a piece of paper and move on to the next task. Once you are done taking care of the things you can do with greater ease, revisit your list of questions and ask for help.
