There is Strength in Collaboration
Your quick-paced mind and natural aptitude for problem-solving make you an amazing entrepreneur and CEO. And your determined go-getter attitude means you’re willing to do the work to get to the top of any industry. These are all great qualities but sometimes you might be a little bit too smart for your own good. If you have been accused of being closed to new ideas at least once or twice, read on. This blog is for you.
I get it. You are like this because you can see the big picture and you want to bring everyone up with you. But deep down you know you also want to be a leader and I have a few tips to help you balance your tendencies so you can leverage collaboration without compromising or sacrificing that drive you have inside you.
Stop looking at everything like a competition
Yes, you’ve got lots of ideas and the ability to make things happen. But your clients and employees also have lots of amazing ideas that they are genuinely excited about. Even if you don’t agree with their ideas, they’re sure to spark some innovation in you if you just take the time to hear them out. And if they don’t turn out to help you get inspired or grow, you have at least strengthened the relationships enough to inspire better ideas the next time. Ideas can be like swords; they can sharpen each other.
"I believe you have to be willing to be misunderstood if you're going to innovate." — Jeff Bezos
Try listening more
Your brilliant brain is so fast that you sometimes end up cutting people off before they can offer their ideas or solutions. But when you listen to experts a bit more carefully, it’ll be way easier to come up with collaborative solutions that work for everyone. You will also find that your problems are solved a lot faster with a lot less stress and effort from you! So the next time you are in a meeting, focus on listening to what. other people are saying rather than just waiting for your turn to speak.
Loosen up
You’re killing it in life and business. Take a day off and go for a walk in the woods or have a long chat with your bestie. You’ll never crush all of your awesome goals if you burn out! Rest and relaxation are also productive activities that can lead you to innovation. In fact, there are scientific studies that suggest that daydreaming is conducive to invocation. So try incorporating more “nothing” into your schedule.
