In general, we would not go with the “best time to post” concept as if there is a one and only best time to post that applies to everything. Every single page is going to have its own unique analytics that you can actually use as a guide to post at the best time for your unique accounts, per platform. On Facebook ,for example, you can actually go to your dashboard and it’ll make suggestions about when the optimal time to post any given post is for your page based on the actual performance of your own audience. So, if you Google when’s the best time to post on social media and you go with whatever the internet says, know that the result will be an average and may not be best for your unique account. Your audience has its own patterns of behavior that may or may not be average. You might as well use your own audience data to determine when to post your next post. So use the unique analytics for each of your social media platforms to decide when you’re going to post your posts . Don’t go with the general “best time”, instead use the unique analytics for each of your accounts.
With social media it’s really simple, you have to strike a balance between what people are interested in and what is authentic to you and to your brand. What does that mean? Well there’s data that you can use to figure out what questions people are asking online, what your target customers are more interested in, what they’re clicking on already, and what sort of content they are consuming already. Then consider what’s on your mind, what are you seeing in your experiences that you may want to talk about. You and your brand are the subject matter expert. This blog serves as a really good example of that. We’ve done quite a bit of research and I know that business owners want to stay informed about social media management, but we are combining that data insight with what’s actually coming up for us with real clients and creating this content to add value.
So consider how you can create content that offers value to your target customers by balancing these two things, their interests and yours! Be authentic to you and to your voice; don’t try to be something that you’re not because that never works, at least not for too long. So just be yourself and post authentic content, but make sure that you are also coupling that with insight from actual customers as well as a data analytics so that you have the best of both worlds.
Our suggestion is this – it’s nice to have a planned out calendar for your content so your accounts are active consistently. If you need a calendar we have a template that we give away (it’s on Google sheets), you can find it here. You can use the template to plan out your content on important days in your business, for example, if you’re a CPA, then you might want to plan ahead some video content like posts or stories for specific tax deadlines. When you think through and plan your content ahead of time, you can then batch create the content. For instance, you can sit down one afternoon and just record 5, 10, 15 videos based on your calendar for the week, month or the year. Maybe you want to go ahead and record Easter or Christmas videos? If so, you want to change outfits, you want to talk about different things and send them somewhere to be edited so that you don’t have to do that because you shouldn’t be – unless you really enjoy it. If you’re a business owner you have better things to do so delegate that recorded content to be edited, scheduled and put on your calendar to your team. Let them handle it for you and now you will have a better organized social media calendar.
While we believe that planning and batch creating is a great idea, that’s not enough. You need to do more than that to reach your full potential. You can create inspiring content based on what’s happening in your industry, in real time. Plan to respond to news and trends with your content by creating special posts or joining conversations online. If part of your content strategy includes reels and TikTok videos you can also make content on the fly based on trending sounds and hashtags. There are audio trends that you might want to hop on that are related to your industry or that your target customer might be interested in and you don’t want to miss out on that because “Oh well, I already created my content for next month so I’m not going to create this video because I did some myself and it’s already done”. NO – hop onboard and do some of this stuff.
I do recommend for business owners to learn basic editing skills on their phones because these days it’s all about being timely, so you want to be in a position where you’re delegating most of the production of your content to an external vendor, a marketing team, VA, an agency, or whatever you’re using. But at the same time you want to be able to do some of this stuff yourself so that if you are inspired by something or you’re ready to hop on a trend and your team has other tasks that they’re working on for you, you are not stressing them out by interrupting them unnecessarily – you can just do some of this stuff solo and push it out fast. One way to accomplish this without using content that is not as good as what your team might make is to have templates on hand for things like posts, video animations and other things you can keep on hand to use to make your own content while still including that professional touch.
We highly recommend identifying platforms you can use like Canva for design and apps like Capcut for video editing because they work on almost any phone and let you create things on the fly. There’s also imovie if you want to edit on your computer and have a mac. There are a bunch of tools out there that are super simple (drag and drop, copy and paste) so have your team make you some templates for animations lower thirds, higher thirds, whatever they call graphics these days or that you might want to include.
